Emancipation Day in Jamaica

August 1st is Emancipation Day in Jamaica, a public holiday and part of a week-long cultural celebration. During this time, Jamaicans remember the abolition of slavery on the island in 1838 and celebrate their rich Jamaican heritage.

Juneteenth in the United States

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is celebrated on June 19th, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the Confederate states were finally freed. Juneteenth has gained new prominence in recent years as the country continues to grapple with its history of racial injustice.
