Dortmund's Victory over PSG in Champions League Semi-Final

Borussia Dortmund secures a narrow lead against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final

Dortmund's resilience and PSG's missed opportunities shape the game's outcome

Borussia Dortmund secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Despite PSG boasting a star-studded lineup, it was Dortmund who took the initiative from the start. The German side's high pressing and aggressive play kept PSG on the back foot for much of the first half.

Dortmund's persistence paid off in the 25th minute when Karim Adeyemi found the back of the net. The 21-year-old striker latched onto a loose ball in the box and fired a left-footed shot past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG responded positively to the setback, but they struggled to break down Dortmund's well-organized defense. Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé both had chances to equalize, but their efforts were thwarted by Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

As the game entered its final stages, PSG pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but they left themselves exposed to Dortmund's counterattacks. Adeyemi came close to doubling Dortmund's lead in the dying minutes, but his shot sailed just wide of the post.

Second leg takes place Tuesday 7 May

The second leg of the semi-final will take place on Tuesday, May 7, at PSG's Parc des Princes stadium. PSG will need to overturn the 1-0 deficit to advance to the final, while Dortmund will be aiming to defend their narrow advantage and secure a place in the showpiece event.
