In a thrilling and action-packed race under the lights of Singapore, Sergio Pérez of Red Bull Racing emerged victorious at the 2022 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. Pérez held off pressure from pole-sitter Charles Leclerc of Ferrari throughout the race to claim his fourth win of the season.
Starting in fourth position, Pérez made an early move to overtake Leclerc's teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. on the opening lap. He then stayed close behind Leclerc for several laps before a safety car period on lap 10 gave him the opportunity to pit for fresh tires. This strategy paid off as Pérez emerged ahead of Leclerc when the race resumed.
Pérez controlled the pace of the race from the front, but Leclerc never gave up the chase. The two drivers traded fastest laps throughout the race, with Leclerc closing the gap to just one second at one point. However, Pérez remained composed and held Leclerc at bay to secure the victory.
The win moves Pérez up to second place in the Formula 1 championship standings, just two points behind leader Max Verstappen. Leclerc is now third in the standings, while Sainz Jr. remains fifth.
The 2022 Formula 1 season continues with the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend at Suzuka Circuit.
